Renaissance mansion
with 46 rooms
Number of rooms: 46
Park area: 40 ha
History of castle:
This originally Renaissance mansion was built together
with the chapel of St.Imrich in 1609 by nobleman Thomas Vizkelety most
probably on the site of the older structure. In 1816 it was rebuilt into its
present Classicist form. The mansion has four wings and closed central
courtyard with Renaissance arcades. It has two floors with 46 rooms.
Interesting sgraffito façade with swan-tail attic, terrace and the tower
with balcony next to the main entrance are the result of the romantic
changes during the 19th century. In the interior there are some beautiful
Renaissance and Baroque vaults. The last owners have been the
Steiger-Zámojský family famous for their brewery. In the marvellous English
park with the size of 11 hectares you can find more than 40 rare trees like
Gingko… Other monuments within the park area: statue of St.John of Nepomuk
from 1776 and pseudo-Roman chapel with the crypt of the Steiger family (late
19th century).
